The match kicked off under the floodlit stadium with both teams demonstrating their tactical brilliance and physical prowess right from the whistle. The first half of the match was a closely contested battle with neither team able to break the deadlock.

Indian forward Sunil Chhetri led the front line with his exceptional skill and vigour, while Kuwait's stalwart, Bader Al-Mutawa, showcased his class with brilliant passes and ball control. Both defences remained resolute, resulting in a goalless stalemate at half-time.

As the second half commenced, both teams came out with renewed energy, keen to stamp their authority on the game. It was India that drew first blood in the 57th minute, thanks to a magnificent strike from their talisman, Sunil Chhetri. A perfectly timed cross from the left flank by Indian winger Udanta Singh found Chhetri, who made no mistake in slotting it into the back of the net.

However, Kuwait was not to be undone. They responded swiftly with an equalizer in the 67th minute. A splendid through-ball from Faisal Zayed found Al-Mutawa, who deftly put it past the Indian goalkeeper, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, to level the scoreline. The final moments of the match were fraught with tension as both teams looked for the winning goal. Yet, after 90 minutes, the scoreline remained 1-1, pushing the match into extra time.
